tablecloth (Tafelkleed), click to enlargeTablecloth (Tafelkleed 2002)  162cm x 162cm (63.5" x 63.5")

This quilt was designed for the theme '5'. De basic shape used in this tensided tablecloth for a round table is the fivepointed star (pentagram), surrouned by a regular pentagon. These pentagons form a selfreplicating pattern (a so-called fractal), which occupies a large part of the quilt. The remaining space is filled by an unpatterned fabric. Quilt detail.

bed-quilt (Geen naam), click to enlargeUntitled (Geen naam 2001-2002)  138cm x 242cm (54" x 95")

A quilt for a bed, based on a traditional Islamic pattern. The pattern is more easily recognizable from another angle.

monet-sunflowers (Monet's Zonnebloemen), click to enlargeMonet's Sunflowers (Monet's Zonnebloemen 2000-2002)  138cm x 181cm (54" x 71")

A painting by Claude Monet is the basis for this design. I used the computer to break the painting up in rectangular pieces of different sizes and shapes. The size of the shapes is determined by the amount of color variation in the original picture. Quilt detail.

convex-metamorphosis (Convexe Metamorfose), click to enlargeConvex Metamorphosis (Convexe Metamorfose 2001)  113cm x 99cm (44.5" x 39")

Another packet of 4" squares (P&B solid colors) and the reading of Jinny Beyer's Designing Tesselations led to this quilt. The patchwork was done by paper piecing; the individual paper piecing designs were computed and printed using a specially written computer program.

falkens-maze (), click to enlargeFalkens Maze (2001)  151cm x 100cm (59.5" x 39.5")

The idea for this quilt came after buying a packet of 4" squares (Jinny Beyer's Basic Reality collection). I used EQ4 to design the pattern. The name comes from a (totally unrelated) movie, which I'm sure you can Google out for yourself if you really want to. Quilt detail.
